Nope you are right .. I had to learn using quirks mode the hard way. During the creation of hundreds of css layouts we quickly figured out IE truly sucked when not in quirks mode. The bugs, were related to relative, absolute positioning, margins, paddings, canvas measurements, and oh much more. For the average simple blog you won't notice a lot of the problems, but creating stuffed dynamic UI's combined with javascript and keeping that CSS, that's is on the edge work for IE.
