Good points. onSessionEnd() would be a good place to do this, except that it does not run in the context of a HTTP request. In other words, you can't remove the cookie from the browser.
The reason I didn't really go for this when using <cfapplication> in Application.cfm, was that simply catching the exception and using another <cfapplication> tag with a session timeout of "0 seconds" seems good enough. Maybe not...
