I'd think MySQL is important (sort of surprised to see the "Big 3" was MS-SQL, Oracle, and Access... specifically the Access choice) for anyone, not just those who don't want to run Microsoft software. And while I am a strong proponent of open source software, I don't see a reason at all to port it to Mono -- complete waste of your time and resources compared to introducing new functionality. Most pragmatic programmers focus on the getting the job done efficiently -- I know of more than one OS X convert who still uses HomeSite on a PC :) If the tool is really useful to you, a second box -- or even better yet, a Virtual PC instance, is an effective way to leverage the tool. Or in my case, I do an enormous amount of development using open source and deploying on Linux, but working on WinXP and VMWare. Some folks buy Win boxes just to play games -- seems like buying one to run a few key programs isn't a big deal. So to recap -- MySQL (and PostgreSQL) support would be great since it expands the deployment opportunities. Moving to Mono would *possibly* open things up to Mac and Linux folks on the development side, but moving to GTK+ seems like it would be a LOT of work. Maybe a quick analysis will show it isn't. I would wager that a poll would show more folks deploying on a currently unsupported db platform than developing on a currently unsupported Plum platform. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "dave" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: "CF-Talk" <cf-talk@houseoffusion.com> > Sent: Thursday, June 16, 2005 5:42 PM > Subject: Re: mach II or fusebox? > > > > Adam, I loved Plum when I was on beta but.......................... > > > > things changed and it wasn't anything plum did it was just the lack of > support for mysql (as i graduated up a notch from access) but its also built > upon .net framework and gawd 4 bid I will EVER have anything m$ on my > machines ever again!
