I've done it using the technique below. The only problem is that the ability to 
connect through SSL only exist in the pro version of the tag located here:
http://www.cftagstore.com/tags/cfxpop3professional.cfm
At $60, it's one of those things you get if you have need for it but if you 
just want to play around....

This is another feature that should be thrown over to Adobe for inclusion in 
the next CF release.
