Very true, and I've been involved in a couple of those. > But you do have to admit, many times on this very list you've > provided your > feelings about Linux vs Windows; I seem to recall your > self-description as a > "Linux snob". But this list covers a pretty specific topic - CF - and a > little evangelism about OT subjects goes a long way. I tried to be a 'List Cop' once on this list, when someone asked a question about a MySQL query, and everybody jumped down my throat (admittedly I wasn't very tactful). This list gets a LOT of traffic, and I know it's annoying at times to see so much OT stuff. That said, there is little to no list moderation here, and in general it's a free for all. All tech related topics seem to be fair game, from ASP.Net problems to Windows administration. So, I find myself participating in OT topics, and I gave up on trying to keep things 'OT' (although I try not to originate OT threads), because honestly I can't even tell what the topic is supposed to be (even though the list title should provide some direction). And I don't envy the list creators either, because the bandwidth here is pretty much unmanageable. I'd love too know if there are any posted rules on HOF somewhere so people could be pointed that direction when neccessary. But there are a lot of people on the list that don't care, and will often say "You know where your delete button is, use it!" ----------- This transmission may contain information that is privileged, confidential and/or exempt from disclosure under applicable law.
