mySQL 5+ has soundex built in. But I don't think that will help. Peg doesn't
sound anything like Margaret, and many nicknames have only superficial
resemblance to their full versions.

Mike, I think you're looking for a soundex
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soundex), which does a "sounds like"
comparison. I know that Oracle and SQL Server support soundex in the
database - that might be the easiest thing to do.
