I don't think you did understand what he said.

He's saying there are (or would/could be in a given situation) good
reasons for making the move.

Your response:

"Dave, I can think of plenty of reasons to migrate away from MS SQL."

Which seems to be the same thing as "there are (or would/could be in a
given situation) good reasons for making the move".
