The code would depend on what exactly you want as a result, of course, but if you just wanted to conditionally hide the "close window" button, it might look like this: if (!window.opener) { document.getElementById('mybuttonname').style.visibility = 'hidden'; } You could put this in a function, and call it using the onload event handler of the body tag.
