Dave and others,

Adobe's own coding guidelines if I read it right says this.

<cfcomponent>
   ... Local variables
   ... public variables

   ... Pseudo constructor (if required)
   ... Public methods
   ... Package methods
   ... Private methods

</cfcomponent>

And although it is unclear, it does clearly state that it is the norm to use
init as a pseudo constructor. However in the likes of coldspring it is best
to use a pseudo constructure configure() as init() is already used by
coldspring.

So you want to talk about confusiong, then this adds more fuel to the fire
as far as I am concerned.

I still stand by the fact that local / public variables is not defined in a
pseudo-constructor, its the wrong description for it. And it should remain
that Coldfusion doesn't use constructors, but in the case one is needed then
the adopted coding standard is to use init() as psuedo-constructor as
defined by the Adobe website coding guidelines.

That would be an actual constructor. CF doesn't support that, so all we can
do is set properties. Many people refer to these properties collectively as
a "pseudo-constructor".
