Yes, the ability to build complex applications may well be hampered in a shared hosting environment. I'm not an expert in how to best configure a shared hosting environment, but I suspect that the more you pay, the more likely your applications will be able to use these specific features. I don't know if CreateObject can effectively be sandboxed, for example, but that could be solved using multiple instances or VPS.
