Someone (I'm sorry I forget who) was having trouble making PWS open up at
startup in the "Started" state. I'm pleased to say I have found the
answer
for Windows98 at least....

I have two systems - one starts up with PWS started and the other doesn't.
The thread got me to thinking and I ended up talking to my son who is a
support guy at Mickeysoft. After some hunting around, here's what we
found
......

1. DON'T DON'T DON'T! start PWS by putting a shortcut in the Windows >
Start menu > Programs > Startup folder. That's what kicks PWS off in a
"stopped" state. Did I say DON'T do that?

2. There's an undocumented feature of Windows98 - MSConfig. Use
Start
> Run > MSCONFIG <.Enter> This opens a neat configuration utility where
you can edit the autoexec.bat, system.ini and win.ini files turning on and
off single lines of the configuration files. AND you can edit the
startup. This is where you will see PWSTRAY listed, with an unchecked
box. Just check it, click OK and restart if it asks you to.

Now your PWS will start in the background, without showing the startup
panel, and PWS will be in the "started" state.
