In a MS environment, VB is often the tool of choice.  For fast text file
processing, it's hard to beat Perl, though.

If it's mostly database processing and done on a server where CF is already
installed, I find it very hard NOT to use CF.  (How does the saying go about
if you've got a hammer, every problem looks like nail?)  Using CF for SQL
queries and database manipulation becomes so second-nature, that it's hard
to resist.  For large text file processing, though, CF is usually a bad
choice.
