On one note, I'd say that we should give Macromedia a break. I know that they have had some website and support issues, but they have delivered a solid release of both Server and Studio. Which is all you can really expect, cuz for most of us, that's all we're really paying for.
I'm sure if you're not happy with how things are run, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to sell you the division that produces ColdFusion. However, as painful as a migration may be, how the hell do you turn off production servers like that? I'll echo the thoughts about staging servers - if you know what you're doing, once everything's good, you should be able to throw the switch (in theory) with little to no downtime.
