Are you willing to leave school to do that? Plus, internships usually come out of special budgets. My experience has shown that internships are more like contract positions than full-time in terms of rate. Not to mention the fact that internships are for college students only - otherwise, you're competing with the world (and right now, I know alot of top-notch programmers out of work)
