Just some places to look, -Are the threads to the database set up to be kept alive in the CF Admin? -Is TNS configured to disconnect inactive DB threads? -There may be problems with the DNS server. -Also, if 8i works like an Application Server, you may need to check the port range for which it communicates to make sure it has an adequate range to speak through.
