I don't disagree with your statement. But you also have to realize that my company isn't large enough to have a dedicated Solaris sys admin right now, and our current sys admin is a Windows/Unix guy, so we're stuck having to piece together bits and pieces of knowledge with external resources. Not ideal, but those are the cards I have to deal with right now. Our production web site is hosted for us, so the hosting company is responsible for maintaining those boxes. But when it comes to our in-house development boxes, they want to charge money we just don't have right now to maintain them.
