So, to answer my own questions, when you create an XML Object via XMLNew() the reason why XMLParse fails is because that's the parsed XML Object already. To transform that XML Object so something else, you need to use XMLTransform() and you need an XSLT object to transform that before it can be written to an .xml file. Looking into XSLT (Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformation) objects atm.
