Seeing as we're me-tooing, I'll put in a plug for Virtual PC, it rocks. If you have MSDN or a Microsoft Action Pack, multiple licences are included. We run Microsoft Virtual Server on a development box, and have three or four virtual machines on at a time with different versions of Windows, CF, SQL Server etc as required. The box needs a fair bit of RAM but that's cheap in comparison to multiple machines. If you need to take a server down or reboot, you can do that without disturbing other developers using the same box. And you can install whatever software you want without worrying about hosing the box.
