You would deploy the application in it's entirety as a J2EE
application. ColdFusion compiles the code to Java as either an EAR or
WAR file which can then be deployed on a J2EE server (like JRun 4
which CF ships with).

This compiled code is, to my knowledge, not backward compilable. Just
ensure you keep your source code safe.

It is surprisingly easy to do - the DEV edition of ColdFusion (6.x and
above) allow you to do this for you to try.

However, downside, I think you need the Enterprise level of CF (ie -
not Standard/Pro) to deploy a J2EE CF application.
