Another more consideration along the same lines Simeon brings up is i've
found it VERY important to learn how to think about OO design in general. As
a beginner I've found it very difficult to take a bag of patterns to a
problem, take them out one by one and try and fit a pattern into a part of
the problem. That hasn't worked very well for me. i just created a mess and
got lost in it.

Perhaps an experienced person can do that, but i find myself more and more
looking for the keys to understanding how patterns, or good OO design is
derived. Apply those keys, and the design begins to evolve, and then i can
begin to see the patterns showing up in the design. "Ahh, yes, i'm thinking
of using the factory pattern over there."

So to me, a good resource on Design Patterns for CF would delve thoroughly
into how good design is derived, (perhaps along the lines of Design Patterns
Explained, but with more of a CF, web application slant). Although in the
end you come to patterns, i'm not so sure that even an experienced person
starts with a bag of patterns (Or do you??). Where do you start? How do you
get to the point where the parts and the whole begin to fit? Is there a
methodology to that?

Forgive my enthusiam ...

I agree.
