OK well with some degree of hesitation, I've put a simple application on my afpwebworks.com web site at http://afpwebworks.com/support/oopdemo.zip .   Everything I think you need is in the zip file, which is part of the point - to see if i fully understand what you actually do need.

It works on CFMX7 (uses an XML form.) and MS SQLServer2000 database.  If that's not your setup, no problem, but you'll have to change the app yourself.   There's a simple table with two fields, plus the fields to create an audit trail for additions and changes,   a .cfc bean and a .cfc CRUD, and the .cfm files to tie it all together.   In theory you should be able to unzip the packet,  edit the Application.cfm file to suit your setup, create the widgets table in a datasource you already have,  then use the app.  just like that.

I would really like to know what you guys think of my code.  In the seven years i've been working in ColdFusion, no one has ever commented about my code.   Not one employer has ever had a word to say about my code, either good or bad, so I have no idea whether I'm any good at it or not, except that my apps work, more or less.  I am not sure if that's because I'm really useless at it, or because they're dingbats and wouldn't know good code if it bit them on the bum, or what.

Please be gentle with me, but i am truly eager to hear what you more knowledgeable folks think of what I've done, good or bad. (although if it's truly awful, perhaps an off-list bollocking would be best! - I do have feelings after all!).

I offer no warranties, no support and no help with this code.  If you use it, terrific.  But don't come crying to me if it causes your curtains to fade or your kids to get purple spiky hair or take up the banjo.

Ok well I was hoping to be a little more low-key than this, given that I'm currently looking for contract work and there are enough people already who are convinced I'm a dingbat without even talking to me, but ok, as long as you all promise to realise the following:

[A] I am NO EXPERT at OOP - I'm learning. I'm very experienced at making ColdFusion apps, having done it full time for over 7 years now, but I'm only learning this object oriented thing.

[B]  I'm asking for knowledgeable people to critique my code - so I can know whether I'm on the right track.  I'm NOT saying "this is how you do it, so be smart-alecs and tell me how wrong I am - I dare you!"

[C] If you beginners follow what I've done and get yourselves in to trouble as a result, it's your own stupid fault for copying another learner's code.   You're welcome to look at my code, and use it if you find it useful, but I am not even sure my OWN app is working correctly, let alone yours.  If you want expert opinion, ask Ray or Sean.

I'm muddling along and I think i'm past a milestone.  What I'm hoping will come out of this is confirmation (or otherwise) that I am indeed past that milestone.   I am hoping someone who knows what they're talking about will say "yes you're on the right track," or alternatively, 'no you arent right - here's where you ought to do it differently.".

Given that, I'll put a zip file up on my site at afpwebworks.com later this afternoon and post the address here.

I dont think you even can post an attachment for this list, I think it
will be stripped out, but even if you can, I would suggest you don't.
Uploading a zip to your own website and providing a link is a much
better solution IMO.
