Thank you for proposing a patch! Looks convincing but I think the specifics miss the point. I rarely touch C initializer ASTs, so I wouldn't mind a quick refresher of how they look and why they cause a problem. That said, I'm not convinced that only C initializers are a problem - my impression is that you just stepped on that and your fix just zeroes on that - without looking at the broader scope.
