I thought this might be the case as well, but Firefox did not
complain. As you pointed out, it would at least throw a warning for a
self-signed certificate.

The question still remains: Why require HTTP authentication?

I guess I don't entirely understand Chandler's security model. My
understanding (without looking deeply myself) was that access control
was basically determined by "secure" URLs -- URLs that are obfuscated
and hard/impossible to guess. This is how Google Calendar's private
URLs work, and it's how I thought Chandler worked. Now I'm seeing
that's not the case, and I'm wondering why.

Specifically, if I want to have a public calendar on Chandler (thanks,
btw, to Graham for your response), I'd like to have an .ics file so
that anyone can subscribe to that information without having my
username and password. How can I do this?
