Hi Eugene

We should be not surprised ;)

As Google Mail is Beta, so we should expect Google developers of the Beta to
listen and respond considerately to all user concerns regarding
non-observance of relevant IETF standards.

Over now to <http://mail.google.com/support/> for that one.

Google Mail Beta aside, in the Google Groups arena: I had a very worrying
experience when it became necessary to highlight Google's own breakage
(through Groups-related workflow) of their privacy policy. Group members
were complaining, quite rightly, about public disclosure of their e-mail
addresses -- no CAPTCHA required. The responses were basically 'like it or
lump it' and Google's over-focus on lumping it seemed to prevent them from
paying attention to flaws in their workflow.

On the other hand, optimistically: where Google Groups was previously very
poor with regard to mis-presentation of subject lines, AFAICT their
presentation is now much better. Presumably they listened to user complaints
within and beyond beta testing.

I never have problems with threads, subjects, forks etc. in Apple Mail, even
when receiving threads from within Google Mail. YMMV.

Over now to <http://www.apple.com/support/leopard/mail/> for that one.

There remain arguments for better usees of subject lines, some of which may
relate to accessibility, but such discussions belong in another forum.

Pending some clarification on the problems with Google Mail, I'll aim to
temper my writing a little…

Best regards
Graham
