There's a keyboard shortcut to take you (back) to the quick entry field. 

If you find that quick entry in Chandler Desktop misinterprets any entry, then 
you may be interested in enhancement

… suggests that you're on Linux or Windows. 

If you were on Mac OS X, then you could enjoy a widget like the one shown at 
<http://chandlerproject.org/Journal/GrahamPerrin20090104> but I don't know how 
to do such things on other OSes. 

Don't forget Chandler Hub. It's very well designed to allow quick entry: 

1. type
2. key Enter or Return (makes the entry)
3. key tab (reaches the quick entry field)
