I think we should begin with a shared definition of 'task'.

Task = to-do = VTODO (see references below).

In Sunbird, anything that's not in the calendar is presented as a Task:

In iCal, anything that's not in the calendar is presented as a To Do:

I use a star in Chandler in the same way that I use a flag in Mail: to draw
attention.

I never needed to. 

In theory, I tend to unstarred things only after doing things that were
starred. 

In practice: 

• in Chandler, I pay greatest attention to triage

• I probably spend more time in iCal than in Chandler.

As a group, we tend towards:

• iCal (Mac OS X 10.5.7)
• Lightning (in Thunderbird on Windows XP or Linux).

Mail (Mac OS X 10.5.7), Sunbird and other applications work with Chandler
Hub, and present tasks in isolation, but iCal and Lightning are preferred.
