I think we should begin with a shared definition of 'task'. Task = to-do = VTODO (see references below). In Sunbird, anything that's not in the calendar is presented as a Task: <http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/sunbird/screenshot.html> In iCal, anything that's not in the calendar is presented as a To Do: http://n2.nabble.com/file/n2939744/iCal%2BTo%2BDo%2BItems%2Bby%2BTitle.png In Chandler, we have events, notes and messages: http://n2.nabble.com/file/n2939744/Item%2Bmenu%2B-%2BNew%2BStarred%2BNote.png > > --- what do other people use the Starred mechanism for, if not to > designate Tasks? > I use a star in Chandler in the same way that I use a flag in Mail: to draw attention. > --- how do other people view their unstarred notes (or don't people need > to)? > I never needed to. In theory, I tend to unstarred things only after doing things that were starred. In practice: • in Chandler, I pay greatest attention to triage • I probably spend more time in iCal than in Chandler. > --- what, in other people's minds, turns a note into a Task, > I treat the two as equal. > and how do you view them; that is how do you see a task list that contains > only tasks, unless the tasks are starred? > As a group, we tend towards: • iCal (Mac OS X 10.5.7) • Lightning (in Thunderbird on Windows XP or Linux). Mail (Mac OS X 10.5.7), Sunbird and other applications work with Chandler Hub, and present tasks in isolation, but iCal and Lightning are preferred. --- To be read alongside the responses, a few goodies from Bugzilla: https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5063 Task icon is easily confused with DONE/NOT-DONE status https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8432 auto-triage quick item entry notes with reminders https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9115 Event start date overrides Custom alarm date for Done items in the Done Section https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11768 Auto-triage event-only items with alarms to DONE References <http://www.calconnect.org/publications/calendaringglossaryv1.0.pdf> <http://caldav.calconnect.org/standards.html> <http://ietfreport.isoc.org/idref/rfc2445/#page-9> (components) <http://ietfreport.isoc.org/idref/rfc3283/#page-2> (Terminology) Regards Graham -- View this message in context: http://n2.nabble.com/Using-Chandler-successfully-%28was%3A-Unscheduled-%27to-do%27-lists%29-tp2938080p2939744.html Sent from the Chandler users mailing list archive at Nabble.com. _______________________________________________ [email protected] mailing list unsubscribe here: http://lists.osafoundation.org/mailman/listinfo/chandler-users Chandler wiki: http://chandlerproject.org/wikihome
