A little more context information follows.

I work with first graders. The only skill they learn this year is knowing
times on the half hour and on the hour from an analog clock. Even this is
very challenging for most first graders (for example, writing "2:30" is
unnatural, and most students mistake analog 2:30 for 3:30 or 3:02 or ... ).

My teacher -- I am just her volunteer -- has two flat, plastic
psuedo-clocks, clock faces, which are about 16 inches square and for which
the minutes- and hours-hand are connected by plastic gears which keep the 2
hands synchronized, but do NOT supply any digital readout of the
corresponding time. With the existing clock faces an adult has to supply
the correct time feedback vocally. But when the assessments are given the
students must recognize or write the time digitally.

It seems to me that an app could supply both auditory and textual feedback,
based on students dragging input. The dragging input on a screen/monitor
may not be as desirable as the plastic clock, but I think an app might
provide other beneficial features.
