I think it would have gone something like "... if a few lines of J can replace a few dozen lines of code written in some other language, and if it would also take 10 times longer to get things working in the other language, and if the J version turns out to be faster ... why not just stick with J?" And that happens to match some of my recent experiences. But I need to get some quirks worked out of the .deb packaging in the context of ubuntu. Which in turn means spinning up a variety of test machines and working through whatever issues they reveal. Nothing is ever easy.
