I use my own coarse-grained parallelization which I've outlined here - http://code.jsoftware.com/wiki/Community/Conference2012/Talks/ParallelSimulationInJ - for years now.
My recollection of the example that Marshall presented at the J conference was that it did not result in a substantial speed-up - in fact, performance was worse - but this looks like a newer version. The first test would be to see if it improves performance on a problem of interest.
