Here are some messages relating to some research on J and openjl last year.

After a brief education in the relationship between WebGL and OpenGL, I found
the site webglreport.com . It seems to show a decent evaluation of the
capabilities of a WebGL environment (see attachment).
There does appear to be a complex relationship between Video Hardware, Video
Hardware Driver software level, OS Software, VM usage and the Web platform where
WebGL is used to determine what will and will not be supported.
Here is a summary of what I found. All of the equipment I tested on would
support WebGL at various levels. All of my equipment would support VM use of
WebGL, but not for all combinations of Guest OS's and VM software. Both VMWare
and VirtualBox required setup to allow WebGL to work with some VM Guests.
The native support for the features of WebGL needed to run the JQT webgl demo on
my equipment was universal (Win7/Win10/Centos7), after updating my Video Drivers
to the latest version.

I have been disillusioned by my inability to make opengl work with J. I
gave up a while ago so I don't remember if I was trying to redo some old
scripts in jQt or in jhs, but I do remember giving up.
Your bookofshaders.com reference does look intriguing, Raul.
