I thought Bill made it clear. There was an intentional change in this area to make another use case work better. The unintentional side effect was that emacs users no longer see the prompt.
If it is easy for the emacs framework to provide the prompt, that would be good solution. If that isn't possible, we'll have to revisit the 901 change and do it in a way that satisfies all. It would have been nice to have known about this problem months ago when the change was first added to 901 beta.
