It is worth taking a look at

Donald Knuth (1974). "Structured Programming with Goto Statements".
Computing Surveys 6 (4): 261–301.

where he argues that goto is useful.

He also quotes Dijkstra:

"Please don't fall into the trap that I am terribly dogmatical about [the
goto statement. I have the uncomfortable feeling that others are making a
religion out of it, as if the conceptual problems of programming could be
solved by a simple trick, by a simple form of coding discipline!"

Best wishes,

John
