I don't know if a forum is a good thing to have or not. Actually, it isn't the first time someone proposes it, so I guess there is some kind of interest.. IMO, the best choice seems to be to integrate the forum with the mail list; something like what OpenSolaris.org is running: the forum is updated with the messages sent to the list, and if a forum user replies to a message it's sent to the mail list as well.
