Please, check that your cherokee lib (ie. /usr/local/lib/cherokee) is in your ldconfig. In Linux this is fixed creating a /etc/ld.so.conf.d/cherokee.conf file with the path to the libraries directories, and the run ldconfig as root. This should be in the FAQ, IIRC I sent a patch because I had this problem in OpenBSD and Ubuntu while installing from source and AFTER a reboot.
