Yes, in fact it was discused.
Some interesting alternatives were suggested in our IRC channel that deserve some serious consideration.

Technically, though, this would require some intensive work and it is going to take time, so it won't happen in the very near future simply because there is no man-power available ATM to address the situation.

As for an immediate solution to your problem, I can only recomend that:
1) Use the Market to install Joomla under your existing virtual host. Last time I checked it was free of charge, so ....
or
2) You check the cookbook, since if there is a recipe for your app, all the info needed to set up your rules should be there.

I think this was discussed at some point, but not sure...

I went to add rules for Joomla to an existing virtualhost and it seems that since the Cherokee market came out, the rules for many of the CMSes that were there before are no longer available. I think it it would helpful to have those rules available to existing virtualhosts so they don't need to be added manually or from installing it from the market.
