Tim, check out this article  http://www.chevelles.com/techref/fpelltec1.html
Or you can see the links at my web site http://www.ProStreetCar.com

The article details my experiences with installing a Tremec 5sp into my '69 Chevelle, and there's quite a bit of info about the transmission itself.  The installation process would be similar for your '66, although you will more likely have to modify the trans tunnel because the '66 tunnel is smaller than the '69s.

The Tremec is more of a square trans, where the Muncie/Richmond/Saginaw trans are round at the top.

Other than that, the GM Tremec will bolt right in, use your existing bellhousing, clutch, and a TH400 trans mount.  The output shaft is a Ford C6.  The C6 yoke is provided with the Tremec, but you'd have to have your driveshaft modified with the new yoke, and likely shortened a bit.  Again, there's more details in the article.

I'm a distributor for Forte Parts.  They have quite a lot of info about the Tremec at their website at http://www.fortesparts.com/
I can get you a better price than what is listed on their website.

Please let me know of any questions you may have.  I'll be glad to help.

BTW:  With 4.33 gears, 31.5" tires, my engine is turning 1900rpm at 60mph.  I just talked to another guy who claims 70mph at 1600rpm! (3.08 gear, 27.5" tire).

take care,

Can I get some information on the Tremec tranny? Do they have a website?? I have a 66 also, with a big block, and it would be nice to go over 60 on the freeway w/o taching out. Thanks

Tim
