there actually was a proto type el camino in 65 that looked like this. The only picture I have ever saw was it towing a ski/drag boat.the article mentioned it was 396 powered. I wonder if this was the mysterious z16 el camino or convertible that has eluded everyone for years? who will ever know?

         That 1965 El Camino was the one and only 396 powered show car built by GM .It was called and I quote-The El Camino Surfer 1 roadster pickup.It came with a matching 396 powered boat.Since it was topless with  the header bar even cut off the windshield ,maybe this started the convert rumor. A good picture of it without the boat is in Terry Boyce's 1981 book entitled ChevySuper Sports 1961-1976.
