1) I would definately go oil lubed. As someone else mentioned, the oil-less are NOISY. And it'll seem even louder at 10pm when you're trying to work on something in the garage. 2) I have a 6HP 33-gallon Craftsman on wheels. I imagine if I started running a DA sander it might struggle, but it does pretty well for running my other tools -- impact gun, air ratchet, air-chisel. I like the fact that I can throw my compressor in the back of my Elky and take to a friend's house if they have a project going on -- as long as they have a 220 outlet somewhere! 3) No -- oil lubed compressors will not get oil in the line. They do make air-line oilers, I believe, so that your air tools get a constant supply of lube in the line. But this is more for a pro shop where the tools are being used all day, every week. Not really meant for a home shop, IMO. Make sure you look at the SCFM ratings at 40 and 90 psi. Then, compare it to the requirements of the tools you're going to use. -Dave -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Cecil "Steve" Martin Sent: Tuesday, March 12, 2002 9:34 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Chevelle-List] Air Compressor -type/ability Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List ------------------------------------------------------------ I too am looking closely at buying a compressor. I am getting very close to buying and researching for hours at many places on the net to compare. Here are some questions I still have: 1. Oil lubed or oiless ? What are the advantages/disadvantages? 2. 30 Gal 6hp craftsman for $279 or 3. 60 Gal Cast Iron twin cylinder oil lubricated pump for $329 + shipping? 4. Would an oil lubricated pump get oil in the lines? I looked at Sams club, the only decent on there sells for over $800 and can't find it online. Home Depot doesn't have any decent ones online. Lowes has one online that's fairly decent. Anything else I should consider when buying one?
