I am about to pull the pan off the 400 i have and noticed you seem to be the guy with the answers on 400s
the tag on my 400 has a large c on the left side of the tag and a large a on the right side of the tag and down belo is 68
and another ca  and a serial
Does theis mean its from a 68 396  if so any suggestions on what info  i should look for on the valve body  and any beef up suggestions would be greatly appreciated

 Rich,   No, I do not have the original torque convertor.  The transmission was acquired through a "core exchange" back in 1988 from a gentleman that rebuilt transmissions in his spare time.  It has the tag on the passenger side, but I have not been able to locate a pad on the passenger's side.  There is a pad on the driver's side, towards the middle (front-back) right above  transmission pan, that looks like what you were referring too.  Only there is no number, or any sign of a previous stamping (?).  Since the trans has been rebuilt, at least twice now, perhaps the valve body has been altered/changed since it was new.   Perhaps it was an"over-the-counter" trans or a warranty exchange.  Corvette ?  If you find out anything, please let me know.  You have my curiosity peeked. Kent'68 Malibu ZZ502/502 :)ACES #5102    Kent, I still can't find a CT trans code. This is very strange. Do you have the original torque converter? On it will be 1 or 2 letters stamped on it. Give me those letters and I will be able to tell you at least if it was a high performance. If you have the part # from the valve body I can look that up also. We used about 10 or 11 different valve bodies for different applications. I should clear something up for the list. When I said all transmissions for Chevy started with a "C" I was talking about 400 THM and 375's. The 350 can have just about any prefix letter. Also on your 400 Kent, on the passenger side just above the pan will be a machined pad. There will be a vin. # there stamped at the car plant. This is the car the trans went into. You may be able to get some information from that number. Other than that, I can't help much more. BUT my curiosity is piqued on the "CT" code and I will continue to search this out.
