If you just turned the ignition to ON it will show 12 v. And if you dropped to
10v after connecting the "pig tail", I assume you mean the field wire,
this is normal . The bat. wire may do the same. If you send me your
off line address I'll send you an article on how to trouble shoot it. it's 4
pages but also has Ford and Chry. included. Very good article and in laymen
terms. I may have to send it in 4 seperate e-mails. Depends on your
server.

When we turned the ignition to on, it was
showing 12 volts on the Alternator and 12 volts on the voltage regulator.
After re-attaching the pigtail to the alternator we lost the 12 volts. I
found that when the pig tail was disconnected it would show the
