Kelly. there were/are two type of flex fan I am aware of.
One has a aluminum hub an fiberglass or phoenolic meterial blades. and the other model has both hub and baldes made from Aluminum. 
I have run the all metal units with success and experienced  fatique failure with the plastic balded type fans.

I have removed four from my cars in the past...luckily before they flew apart.....they are the ultimate "gimmick" buy.....they don't run cooler & they don't save HP.....I've also seen the aftermath of one falling apart.....not pretty is right!
