I was able to use a harmonic balancer from my local Murray's Auto Parts..
one of those deals where they basically make you pay for the tool, keep it
as long as you want (ie- length of your job or project) and bring it back
for a full refund.  Good deal.

The tool works by threading into the crankshaft as a long stud, and then
using an appropriate washer and nut (on the stud), you draw the balancer
onto the crank.  When it's all the way on, loosed the nut and then unscrew
the stud from the crank.  It's different from just using the crank bolt
because the load is distributed over all the threads instad of just the ones
near the end of the hole where the bolt will first engage.
