I upgraded to the Petronix Ignitor, not the Ignitor II. The distributor must be pulled to install the first Ignitor that I tried, to check for end play in the distributor because of the use of a magnetic ring under the rotor. I didn't leave it in because I couldn't get it to run with it in, thought it was the Ignitors fault. Got new one in mail and let sit in box on shelf for 5 months. One day I received new Jegs catalog and saw that a different Ignitor module is available that the distributor does not have to be pulled to install, no need to re-time, etc. The new Ignitor has an LS designation in the part number which stands for Lobe Sensor. No gap to check, simply screw onto base plate, feed wires through distributor and connect to coil. Have been using for almost a year with no problems, but sure to follow the directions included very carefully including all checks as you go along. I am going to tune up my new 64 Chevelle 283. A co-worker mentioned that I should forget about points and put in an Ignitor II electronic ignition by Pertronix.
