[Chevelle-List] source for T-56 transmissions

I am in the market for a T-56 gearbox. A guy with a local Chevy dealership can sell me a refurbished one for $1,300 (basically built off a broken core).

Does anyone have any other experience with sourcing T-56 gearboxes? Used would be fine. I would like to find one in the LA/Orange County area.
