Just a guess but it sounds like maybe a ground wire has been disconnected. Take a test light and see if power is getting to the head unit. If it is getting power, make sure it also has a good ground. I'm not sure why you think it might be the connections to the speaker in the trunk. It seems like all the work was done up front.

BTW, when you put the engine back in did you attach the ground straps to it? There should be at least one going from the back of one of the cylinder heads to the firewall.

Subject: [Chevelle-List] Dumb Delco Radio question for 67 Chevelle SS

Hope this is not a lame question for my 1967 Chevelle SS.

Question:  I recently pulled the 396 engine and had a friend install a unilite distributor system to replace the points and condensor. Prior to these events the Delco Radio was working. Now, the radio is not working.

First I will check the apparent loose wires in the trunk where the 6 x 9 speaker is.But, my question is would any of the two events above, re: engine removal or changing ignition to unilite affect Delco radio, e.g., removal of condensor ? Duh ?

Personally, I do not think it is related but who knows.

Second, if I take it to my friend to trouble shoot the radio, advice on troubleshooting ?

Third, assuming the Delco radio is not working now and I want to keep the original look of this numbers matching 67 SS, do I have the radio repaired or just have an upgrade CD player/radio installed and place it somewhere out of sight (e.g., glove compartment box).

It was nice to have the original Delco radio working but to repair it costs more than a more modern CD/radio player.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

Ken McDee
