Sounds like one of those "what-if" cars,,like a 71 LS6. I always thought the highest hp 327 available in 1968 was 275hp. Corvettes were available with 350hp 350's in 1968.

Don't know of any documented 68 L79's personally, but there was an article in Chevelle World about one and it's a Concours optioned Malibu as well.  It's the same issue my car was in, Nov/Dec, 2000.

My Chevelle book shows the L79 350 hp available in 65 Chevelle then L79 325 hp available in 67 to 68 but not for 66.
I don't think the engine spec changed they just lowered it to 325 hp so as not to compete with SS 396
