The lifting tabs are bolted to the left rear 2 intake bolts & to the right front 2 intake bolts.

the motor sits so far back in the early Impalas, it would be damn near impossible to get a lift tab on the back side of the engine...

Good point about the lifting tabs.
Seems like they were just leaving them on from the factory for quite a while.
Should be easy to find on a junkyard engine.
