Hey listers,
I'm actually thinking of swapping my engine for a non-matching #'s one but I didn't want you guys to rag on me that much. But, It has come to my attention that I don't have the money or means to purchase an engine. So I'm going to try to swap mine but I dunno what it entails.
I have a 1970 4 Door Chevelle Malibu with .307 original, 2barrel carb, and powerglide trans.....
1. Car stalled on me (going to work, late, thinking, "I'll wait for gas" - When I got gas, it still wouldn't start)
2. Had someone check out my car who told me to leave key in on position -- the large wire from coil to firewall burned.
3. Had someone fix the burned wire and my car was up and running...
4. Same day it got fixed, I'm heading home and it cuts off on freeway.
5. Same guy who fixed wire earlier that day said, now I needed a timing chain.
6.I took the front off the motor this summer to replaced my timing chain - (actually top crank had teeth eaten so badly chain would just slip over it)
7. I put it together and started it up -- It Starts!! But every other turn of the engine resulted in gas spitting from carb (if your car running sounded like rm,rm,rm,rm,rm,rm... Mine sounded like rm, rm., rm, spit (gas from carb), rm, rm, rm, spit......)
8. So I came to you guys and someone said my time was off 180 degrees.
9. Got mechanic to turn carb 180 degrees -- wouldn't start and wouldn't run properly
10. Heard it could be bent valve, rocker arm, or something but that's another $500 or more job.
11. I have a 76 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme with a 350 that I had rebuilt 2 years ago w/cam, new carb-and the darn trans when out a week later
12. I want to swap engines -- no need to have a rebuilt engine connected to fried trans and fried engine connect to 4 year old rebuilt original powerglide.

Fellow listers... apologies for the long message but I needed you to know just about everything so that you can give me your honest opinion.
What should I do? Will it be an all winter project or fairly simple?

Thank you in advance for your opinions,
               Charles
