Scott,

  Cracking is what I heard as well, but that was almost 35 to 40 years ago
for me, so surely something has to be improved, and you see many bass boats
are still metal flake!

The better ones had up to 20 coats of clear and therein is the problem. 
Back then clear and sunlight did not like each other.   Talk about cracking.

Looked like a 100 year old's face. On a bad day.   Bet they have the problem

fixed by now.
