Last I heard,
they were going to try to keep it somewhere around $10k (plus delivery). Hot
Rod Magazine did an article many months ago wherein they said that the bodies
would sell for about $10k. The guys at DII were not exactly happy about Hot Rod
announcing that price. What I heard was that they originally planned to sell
the bodies with the doors, trunk lid, and convertible top frame attached, but in
order to try to hit the price point of $10k that Hot Rod claimed, they decided
they had to sell just the shell ala carte, so to speak, and all of the doors,
etc. separately. That was before this last negotiation w/ the General, and it’s
reasonable to assume that the cost of obtaining the licensing may have been added
directly to the cost of the bodies. GM gets 10% of the wholesale value, so I would
not be surprised if they were to go for more like $11k or $12k to offset the
direct cost of the license as well as to defray the expenses incurred in the pursuit
of the agreement. John Nasta -----Original
